Chiropractic Adjustments

I've been wanting to take a picture of Steven getting a chiropractic adjustment for awhile - he's always so relaxed, as if to say, "Aww, now that feels good."
Steven's first adjustment was when he was a couple days old. Our family is blessed to be adjusted every week. Personally, without regular adjustments, I'm in chronic back pain and plagued with one, big, constant headache. Thankfully, chiropractic care has alleviated that.
There's many stresses put on our bodies today, which interprets to much stress put on our spine. Physical stress is an obvious one, but even emotional or chemical stress can put strain on our spine. Think about it, when you're emotionally "stressed out", your whole body tenses, this affects your spine, which affects your nerves, which affects every area of your body. Our nerves run everything we do from breathing to thinking to walking - everything! When pressure is put on one of our nerves, then the message being sent through that nerve is distorted. Did you know that the weight of a dime placed on your nerve can reduce that nerve's function by 60%!
Chiropractors are trained to find which vertebrae are stuck or misaligned, which puts pressure on the nerves they are they to protect, and gently adjust those vertebrae so they are in the correct position and are no longer putting pressure on the nerves. They only adjust the vertebrae that are "out".
Why have Steven adjusted at such a young age? He has vertebrae that get "out", too. The birthing process itself is very hard on the little ones! Not to mention babies fall and bump into things a lot! Hopefully with regular chiropractic care he can avoid having chronic back issues in the future.
If you're in the area and looking for a good chiropractor, I highly recommend ours: http://www.naturalchoicechiro.com/.

Carr Update

Sven has his last class on the 28th. He's been busy working on writing three papers the past couple weeks. The last one is due tomorrow. He'll be graduating May 1st from Kuiper College - how exciting!! Details are yet in the making for an open house at a park near our house while his parents are in town (around the 3rd week of May). He will be taking a May class towards his graduation, which will run for about 3 weeks in May.

I've been enjoying weeding out things we don't need and listing them on craigslist. It's been going real well, selling things quickly and gaining some money and much appreciated room in our little apartment!

I've been busy (as usual) sewing. Enjoying working on an order of diapers - hope to finish it up this week.

Bundled Up for a Walk

Liam Kamp & Steven Carr

Stephen Kuiper

Congratulations to our friends, Jason & Kate Kuiper, who welcomed their second child (first son) into this world on April 4th. 8 lbs. Stephen Augustine Kuiper.

First Apron

First apron I've ever made: A friend of mine hired me to make an apron for her mom-in-law as a gift. She picked out the fabric and style, as well as embroidered her mom-in-law's initials on the front; I created the pattern and here it is (We're both very pleased with how it turned out):
Adjustable neck strap. Front decorative patch - with embroidered initials on it.

Long side straps for wrapping around and tying in front.

The reverse side is backed.

Three miscellaneously shaped pockets blend into apron - placed above large pocket at bottom. Large pocket at bottom is divided into 4 sections or pockets.

Our Little Model and a New Crib

I found a smaller, portable crib on craigslist for a good deal and my mom-in-law bought it for us for a baby gift. Steven will still be too young for a toddler bed when the new baby will be ready for a crib. I didn't want to have two full-sized cribs in our little apartment, so I'm very grateful to have the blessing of owning this mini crib. It's designed for kids up to 75 lbs. (I'm tempted to try to find one to replace Steven's big crib!)
Steven's modeling the crib at what would be his height setting.

Here, he's modeling it at the baby's setting.

Modeling Diapers

I tried to get some pictures of Steven modeling the diapers I've made him, but he was a quick little guy and not too interested in getting photographed, but I did manage a couple, slightly blurry, pictures.
Through trial and error of making my own diapers and using a variety from friends, I've developed (and still developing) my personal diapering preferences and really like these diapers. These are pocket diapers: the outer layer is made from waterproof PUL; the inner layer is soft microfleece, which wicks moisture away from baby, keeping them dry, and doesn't stain from poo - it rinses right out. And, being a pocket diaper, they dry very quickly, which makes them great for hand-washing.

Steven's New Potty Corner

I moved Steven's potty chair to the bathroom floor (it was previously on the changing table). I want Steven to get used to going potty on his chair on the floor so I don't have to be standing right there when he's going. I was a little nervous about the transition, thinking he'd just get up and walk away, but the toys and books (now kept in a little basket for him) are enough to keep him seated until the job is done. He loves to "read" while doing his business.
